About Valerie Duplan — Fine Natural Hair Specialist

I fell in love with hair at 15 years old — and I fell in love with women's confidence even earlier, at age 6, watching how a woman lights up when her hair is done. That spark never left me.

I started my journey in Bloomfield, New Jersey in 2005, then returned in 2010 to Charlotte, North Carolina, where I pursued my cosmetology license at Dudley Beauty School. Right after licensure, I opened Natural Beauty by Val in 2010 in a small salon suite at Salon Central in Charlotte, North Carolina — and I worked there up until the pandemic.

It was during that time, serving women day after day, that I discovered fine natural hair through my own hair type — and then I started seeing it in my clients' crowns too. Women were struggling, not because they weren't trying, but because the routines, products, and tips they followed were never made for their strand structure. Everything I built came from those real chair conversations.

When the world paused during the pandemic, I started working on The Duplan Method™ — a fine-hair-first framework for moisture, density, breakage, and edge recovery.
